======= Technical Help =======

Unending Galaxy is in Beta. As such, you may experience some issues and bugs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Intel or AMD Dual Core 2Ghz CPU
  • Graphics card with DirectX 9.0c and Pixel shaders 2.0 support
  • 1GB of RAM free (2 highly recommended)
  • 150MB Hard Drive space
  • Windows Vista SP1
  • DirectX 10 or later installed

In theory, the game may run on CPU with only one core, but stability and performance may suffer dramatically. The game is mostly CPU bound and fully multi-threaded - the more cores your CPU has, the better the game will run.

Troubleshooting

Graphics Issues

  • Try enabling or disabling the Full Hardware Acceleration in the graphical settings menu (you'll need to restart the game)
  • Try enabling or disabling the DirectX 9 Legacy Mode in the graphical settings menu (you'll need to restart the game)
  • If the game can't run with full hardware acceleration and if it's running very slowly with the setting is disabled, it's likely caused by having Windows' visual style disabled. You can fix that by doing the following (Windows 7):

Open the Control Panel, click System and then Advanced System Settings.

In Performance » click Settings

In the Visual Effects list check “Use visual styles on windows and buttons” at the bottom.

  • Try running the game in windowed mode at a lower resolution (like 1024×768)
  • Ensure that the latest version of DirectX is properly installed on your computer. Download it here.
  • Be sure to have the latest drivers for your graphic card installed. Here's the link for ATI and NVidia cards.

Game Not Launching

  • If you're using the Steam version, ensure that the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 is installed.
  • Issues launching the game on systems with certain antimalware applications (e.g. Avast and McAfee) have been reported. White-listing the game seems to fix the problem.

Sound Issues

  • The ffdshow filter, installed with some multimedia and codec packs may cause issues with our sound library on some computers. You can prevent ffdshow from running with our application by opening its settings, clicking DirectShow Controls / don't use ffdshow in / edit… and add Unending Galaxy's executable to the list. Refer to FFDShow website and documentation for help if need be.

General Tips

  • Compatibility with Windows XP isn't guaranteed at all. In all cases, be sure to have the latest service pack installed (no matter the OS).
  • Try to run the game in windowed mode (not full screen) if it doesn't launch properly.
